Not-so-Big Ideas

Fix all the little things

If I could change the world, no one’s project would be deleted the night before it’s due.

No one’s project would ever be deleted, but especially not the night before it’s due.

If I could change the world, I would eliminate “sucks” from everyone’s vocabulary, including my own. It’s rude and annoying.

If I could change the world, scratching your nails on the chalkboard would be a punishable offense. (You’re cringing, aren’t you?)

If I could change the world, I would make sure that everyone could swim. It’s such a vital skill that it definitely should be mandated.

If I could change the world, microwave doors would never be left open, nor would freezers stay open so the ice cream melts, and people would knock on my door before they barged in.

There would be a Chick-Fil-A in my hometown of Cleburne, and people wouldn’t take up all the time in algebra asking questions when we should be taking our test. Actually, I would just eliminate algebra.

Everyone would run on my time: running seven perpetual minutes late.

Socks would always match and never bunch up around your toes, and jeans wouldn’t do that stupid thing where they get caught in your shoe.

You know when you walk out of your room all ready to go, thinking you look pretty good, and someone says, “Are you really going to wear that?” That wouldn’t happen. Ever.

The book you want to read will ALWAYS be in the library, and when you go to Wal-Mart, the number of registers open will directly correspond with the number of people in line. No, make that Target, because all the Wal-Marts of the world will be replaced with Targets.

If I could change the world I would change it so that I could write about something serious for once. I would make it so that all the things I need to get out aren’t the things that are buried under the most layers of fake smiles and “it’s OK”s.
