Wisdom Beyond Their Years

People with disabilities

If I could change one thing in the world it would be how people like us look at people who have disabilities. Be honest—when you’re walking and you see someone who has down syndrome or is autistic, sometimes you might make a comment to your friend like, “Ha ha! Look at that kid’s face. It is so funny lookin’” or “I’m retarded just like that kid.”

You know what, none of those kids can help it. There is no way you can get rid of down syndrome. You’re born with it. My neighbor, Kevin, who is like my brother, has down syndrome, and after all my friends meet him they understand that it is mean and stupid to make fun of kids who have disabilities. It’s not their fault.

I think all people with disabilities should be treated like us, and they shouldn’t be made fun of EVER.
